Virtual Races

DSE is currently offering Virtual Races for Members Only. Members complete the suggested course or an alternative course close to home, and submit results to dsevirtual@gmail.com by 3pm Sunday. Members who complete at least four of the five January races will be eligible to win prizes in next month’s raffle. Stay safe, and happy running!

JANUARY 2021 DSE VIRTUAL RACE SCHEDULE

December 28 – January 3: Polo Field 5K Course Map

Course description: Start at the south side of the Polo Fields, up the hill from the intersection of Middle Drive and MLK Drive. Run westbound/downhill on Middle Drive, turn right onto MLK, right on Bernice Rogers Way, and right onto Kennedy Drive. Run up Kennedy Drive to Transverse Drive, right onto Transverse Drive, right onto Overlook (dirt trail) and right onto Middle Drive to finish.

January 4 – 10: Stern Grove 4M Course Map

Course Description: Start at the intersection of 33rd and Wawona. Run west on Wawona to 34th Ave, left onto Crestlake Street, left onto Sloat Blvd, left at 19th Ave and left/downhill on Wawona back to start (33rd Ave). Run second loop at 34th Ave & Wawona, drop down through barricade to Stern Grove, run entire west to east length of grove, left uphill and exit Stern Grove. Turn left at 19th Ave, left/downhill on Wawona and back to 33rd Ave and finish.

January 11 – 17: Waterfront 10M Course Map
Please choose EITHER the 10 mile OR the 5K option.

START/FINISH: Dolphin Club, Jefferson & Hyde Streets

COURSE DESCRIPTION (10M): Run eastbound on Jefferson (against traffic) which turns onto Embarcadero (sidewalk). Run past Willie Mays Plaza (Oracle Park), left onto Third St, cross Lefty O’Doul Bridge, veer left then curve right onto Terry François St, left on Illinois St. Turnaround is at 1192 Illinois St (just before 23rd St). Return the same way to finish.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (5K): Run eastbound on Jefferson (against traffic) which turns onto Embarcadero (sidewalk). Run past Pier 9 entranceway, turn around at black/white vertical post and return same way to finish.

January 18 – 24: Rockaway Beach 5K Course Map

Course description: Start at the Rockaway Beach parking lot (near Dondee Way and San Marlo Way, Pacifica). Run southbound on beach promenade, left onto Rockaway Beach Boulevard, right onto Nick Gust Way. Continue over footbridge. Veer right and run along paved path. Stay on path crossing through the Taco Bell parking lot to rejoin path. Turn around at 1.55 miles and return the same way to finish.

January 25 – 31: Great Highway 5K Course Map

Course Description: Start at Taraval and the Great Highway. Run 1.55 miles to Lincoln Boulevard and return the same way to finish.


FEBRUARY 2021 DSE VIRTUAL RACE SCHEDULE

February 1 – 7: Sawyer Camp 10K Course Map

Course description: Start at the trailhead located at the intersection of Skyline Boulevard and Crystal Springs Road. The trail is marked at every half-mile mark. Follow the trail 3.1 miles, then return the same way to finish.

February 8-14: Spreckels Lake 5K Course Map

You may run either the 5K, the Lightning Mile or both of these courses. If you run both, please run both on the same day. There is typically a 15-minute break between these two races.

5K Course Description: Start at Kennedy Drive and 36th Avenue near Spreckels Lake. Run westbound on Kennedy Drive, left onto Chain of Lakes Dr, left onto MLK Jr. Dr, left onto Transverse Dr, left onto Kennedy Drive to finish near Spreckels Lake.

Lightning Mile Description: Start at Kennedy Drive near Transverse. Run 1 mile downhill. Finish near Spreckels Lake.

February 15-21: Twin Peaks 4M Course Map

Course Description: Start at reservoir at Galewood Circle and Clarendon Avenue. Complete inside reservoir counter-clockwise loop; exit downhill onto Clarendon, left onto Laguna Honda and run uphill to Woodside Ave. Continue up Woodside Ave past the gas station. Run uphill/downhill on Twin Peaks Blvd then left and run uphill/downhill on Clarendon and finish inside reservoir.

February 22-28: Mori Point 5K Course Map

Course Description: Start at the Mori Point parking lot (Bradford Way and Mori Point Rd), run west on Old Mori Rd, turn right on Coastal Trail, this becomes Beach Blvd, turn around at 1.55mile mark near Carmel Ave, return to start.


MARCH 2021 DSE VIRTUAL RACE SCHEDULE (draft)

March 1-7: Windmill 10K Course Map

Course Description: Start at the Dutch Windmill in Golden Gate Park (near Kennedy Drive and the Great Highway). Run eastbound up Kennedy Drive to intersection prior to McLaren Lodge (Kezar Drive/Second Barricade). Turn around and return the same way back to finish.

March 8-14: St. Patrick’s Day Crissy Field 5K Course Map

Course Description: Start at the Yacht Harbor Parking Lot. Run west along Crissy Field/Golden Gate Promenade. Stay along path into Fort Point National Historic Site. Turnaround at 1.55 mile markand return same way to finish.

March 15-21: Oakland Redwood Regional 4 Mile Strava Map

Course Description: Enter Redwood Regional Park from the main gate at 7867 Redwood Road, Oakland, CA. Drive along stream to last parking lot. Start trail on paved section at gate. Run along trail, course will become mixture of gravel and dirt that crosses stream 2 times for 2 miles and 365 feet of elevation gain. The 2 mile turnaround is an Old Growth Redwood grove, Tres Sendas trailhead. Return same way to finish.

March 22-28: San Bruno Mountain 5K Course Map

Course Description: Start in the picnic area inside San Bruno Park (555 Guadelupe Canyon Parkway). Run south 0.2 mile along asphalt path toward underpass; at turnaround head back to start. Then proceed along the Saddle Loop Trail running in a counterclockwise direction. Make a left onto Old Guadalupe Trail then right onto Bog Trail. At fork, stay left on Upper Bog Trail and continue back to starting area finish.
